Public Holidays 2009 in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg

Note: The list below differs slightly from the legal public holidays (as conveyed to us by the Luxembourg Embassy),
since the law of 29 August 2006 [Memorial A149, Art L.232-2] now gives employees the right to time off in lieu
on days previously considered Public Holidays (e.g. Carnival and the Luxembourg City Fête).

Note: Not strictly a bank holiday, but many businesses and banks are closed this day, especially in Luxembourg City, while other localities in the country are unaffected by this day off.

In the morning of this day is "Braderie", when shops sell their much reduced wares outside on the pavement (in the capital only).

Notes
* Public holidays falling on a Saturday or a Sunday are replaced by a day off [in lieu] for all employees. This day off must be taken within 3 months, in accordance with article L.232-6(2) of the "Code du travail" (labour code). Thus it may well be that for a number of businesses these days are normal working days.
