Eurostar

Eurostar

The Eurostar has made rail travel to Luxembourg so much easier!

And with the new Paris-Luxembourg high speed line open since July 2007,
the UK-based traveller wanting to get
to Luxembourg by rail now has two route options :

1) Eurostar to Brussels (Midi/Zuid station) + train Brussels-Luxembourg (departing Midi/Zuid station)

2) Eurostar to Paris (Gare du Nord) + TGV (departing Gare de l'Est) to Luxembourg

The journey time depends somewhat on the time of day and/or your opportunity to catch a connection, but is roughly:
1) via Brussels: Around 6 and a half ~ 7hours, minimum 5h39, more often about an hour longer due to the discrepancies between arrival and departure times;
2) via Paris 6~ish hours (min. 5h21). Note that there are 800 meters between the TGV arrival station in Paris (=Gare de l'Est) and the Eurostar departure station (=Gare du Nord).
Since the TGV is more expensive than the regular Brussels-Luxembourg train, it is possibly cheaper to travel via Brussels (but bear in mind any 'special offers') .

Yes, there is a bewildering range of fares and timings, hence perhaps you might want to contact a good Travel Agency, but it ever so easy to travel to Luxembourg by rail from the UK!
